At the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, elite athletes are competing to represent their country, make their professional debuts, break records and, of course, devouring velvety muffins.

The revered chocolate muffins served by the catering team, soared in popularity after a TikTok review of meals served at the Olympic Village by three-time Olympian Henrick Christiansen went viral.

The 27-year-old Norwegian swimmer gave the muffins a well-deserved 11/10 score and since then other competitors have been flocking to give their honest reviews of the muffins.

And with it’s high demand, scavenger hunts commenced with athletes searching high and low after the muffins became scarce after certain hours. A TikTok video of Scottish badminton player, Kirsty Gilmour humoursly suggested that Christiansen, now dubbed the ‘Muffin Man’ was keeping the muffins hostage.

By now, everyone in and outside the Olympic Village were calling and begging for recipes to recreate the muffins.

The French catering company serving the Village, Sodexo Live, remained silent but Coup De Pates finally revealed that they were the source of the adored chocolate muffins after an investigation by American designer Kelin Carolyn Zhang.

The company wrote on their LinkedIn page:

“We knew our Maxi Muffin with Intense Chocolate was something special… but we didn’t expect it to spark such a chocolate storm! Thank you all for the love,”

The case is solved, and the muffins are still delicious with their lava centres and chocolate chunks. Beyond the precious confection, what truly stands out is the camaraderie and fun shared among the athletes.

Despite the gruelling competition, the Olympic Village became a place where smiles and inside jokes flourished.
