With the festive season fast approaching, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security has announced that the Christmas Day holiday will be recognised on Monday (December 26), meaning the work day will be observed as a public holiday.

Under the Holiday (Public General) Act, it states that whenever Christmas falls on a Sunday, the Monday (December 26) and Tuesday (December 27) are observed as public holidays.

The Christmas holiday is usually observed on December 25, followed by Boxing Day on December 26. This year, both holidays will be recognised a day later.

Given that New Year’s Day also falls on a Sunday, Monday (January 2) will be observed as a public holiday,

Jamaicans can therefore delight in an extended weekend, having three extra days off work.
