The convenience of opening a bank account completely online is now a reality for clients of CIBC Caribbean in Jamaica.

The Caribbean bank has fine-tuned its Digital Client Onboarding [DCO] platform, removing the need for clients to visit the bank to open an account. This significant upgrade not only simplified the account opening process but has transformed it to a fully end-to-end digital banking experience, which is both secure and more convenient for clients.

“Our ability to offer fully digital account opening in Jamaica has been made possible, thanks to recent approval from the Bank of Jamaica, which has allowed us to implement Phase 2 of our DCO process, including an electronic document verification service,” said Nigel Holness, managing director of CIBC Jamaica.

“Our upgraded platform has been a real game-changer for our bank. Now our new and existing clients can complete the account opening process from anywhere using a computer or mobile device. Plus, their documents can be verified online through a trusted source, and they can even sign the application form digitally, all without stepping foot into a branch. It is all about saving the customer time and eliminating trips to the bank,” Holness added.

Moreover, as an added feature, CIBC has engaged a third-party identity verification service to facilitate the accurate confirmation of a customer’s identity through a likeness test, live selfie comparison.

Overall, CIBC is providing a comprehensive and user-friendly account opening experience from start to finish, for both new and existing personal and sole trader clients opening individual savings and chequing accounts. Rooted in convenience, every step can be done at the client’s own pace and without the pressure to finish in one sitting.

These digital advancements mark a significant step forward for CIBC as it expands its digital banking footprint to the benefit of current and potential clients in Jamaica and across the Caribbean.
