Several countries have issued travel alerts for the United Kingdom in the face of ongoing protests, some violent, surrounding immigration and Islam in numerous towns and cities.
The countries are Australia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, and India.
The protests in the UK began over the weekend following the tragic murder of three British children by a teenage immigrant. It is reported that the teenager of Rwandan heritage stabbed the children and injured 10 others.
Over the weekend, many of the protests swelled into violence as anti-immigration demonstrators clashed with law enforcement officers. More than 400 protesters have been apprehended following riots that have disturbed cities such as Liverpool, Bristol, Manchester, Hull, Belfast, Stoke, and several others throughout the United Kingdom.
On Sunday (August 4), Malaysia’s Government was the first to warn its citizens in the United Kingdom to “avoid areas of protest” and to “exercise caution”.
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in London then followed suit.
It issued an alert advising Indonesian nationals in the United Kingdom to exercise caution, particularly when travelling or engaging in activities outside their residences. They are encouraged to “steer clear of large crowds and locations that may serve as gathering spots for large groups or demonstrators”.
Earlier this week, Nigeria posted a travel advisory warning its citizens intending to travel to the UK of protests in certain areas. In some cases, the demonstrations are disorderly with a heightened risk of violence and unrest, it said.
