Courts Optical Jamaica Limited has expanded its footprint with the opening of its 13th location in Port Antonio, Portland.

The store was officially launched on Tuesday (January 24), with an event at the branch on Morgans Plaza, Harbour Street. The brand began operations locally in November 2012 and, since then, has worked to improve the standard of eye care available to Jamaicans.

The launch closely follows the opening of its Barnett Street, Montego Bay branch, which was opened late last year as the company eyes increasing its presence locally.

The network of stores now includes outlets in Kingston, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, St James and St Ann.

“As a business leader, Unicomer Group continues to invest in the development and growth of the Jamaican economy, and especially during this time, it is important for us to continue to stimulate the country’s economy with new businesses while providing employment opportunities. This store will employ four team members. We are elated and proud to be partnering with the community of Portland in this way,” said Edwin Vaquerano, managing director of the Unicomer Group.

The sentiments were echoed by attendees including community leaders and Unicomer executives.

“Courts optical is unique in that not only are we able to deliver quality eye care through our team of skilled optometrists and optical advisors but also through the delivery of convenience. We understand that eye health and eye care can be expensive and difficult to obtain in rural areas. Every Courts Optical customer has the convenient choice of paying for their glasses while they wear them and so we have eliminated some of the stresses surrounding medical care” explained Geaton Porter, regional chain manager, Courts Optical.

Courts Optical Port Antonio is open 9:00 am- 5:30 pm daily. Courts Optical is a subsidiary of Unicomer Group, the owners and operators of Courts, Courts Ready Cash, Ashley Furniture HomeStores, RadioShack and Lucky Dollar.
