People’s National Party controversial figure Damion Crawford has come in for criticism for supposedly mocking windshield wipers on Emancipation Day on Friday, August 1.
At a People’s National Party (PNP) mass rally in St Catherine, Crawford—who is the party’s caretaker for North West, St Catherine—boisterously lashed Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness’ purported “stunt” of handing out the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) progress reports with record achievements in Half-Way Tree Square during the peak hours Wednesday morning.
“Since dem a walk a Half-Way Tree, I am going to wipe car glass at Half-Way Tree Friday… and mi a run taxi at Linstead next week Monday,” Crawford said at that event.
Crawford remained true to his promise and turned up on Friday at a stoplight in the corporate area with windshield wipers and assisted them with their trade on the ground.

Since then, he has been roasted by persons on social media for “mocking” the windshield wipers.
Newton Amos, the man representing the JLP in the constituency that Crawford is contesting, chided the Opposition Spokesman on Education.
“He’s claiming he is going to be wiping windscreen… is mocking those who find themselves in a position that they don’t have anything else to do. But, he’s a senator, for God’s sake, and he says he’s a goat rearer. He says he’s an egg farmer, and yet he wants the world to believe that he’s going to go down there to clean windscreen. He’s mocking the unfortunate position of those who have found themselves to be wiping windscreens,” Amos said.
Amos, who is a retired senior superintendent of police, has also questioned the legality of Crawford’s plan to operate a taxi in Linstead on Monday.

“And then, what most alarms me is when he threatened to break the law, because he’s claiming, as of Monday, coming into my town, my town of Linstead, to run taxi. Now, all I can say to him is that we here in Linstead and its environs are law-abiding citizens, and most if not all of the people who operate taxi have taxi licence by law. He better sure seh him have a taxi licence! And that the vehicle which he intends to use to run taxi, is also licensed or else I will make sure that the Linstead police lock him up!” he said.
Marlon Morgan, Jamaica Labour Party senator and senior communications task force member, has also chimed in on the actions of Crawford, citing it as “shameful, exploitative and comedic”.

Some persons also took to X with their concerns and thoughts about Crawford’s actions on Friday.
