Tottenham captain Cristian Romero looks like he will be starting the new season at another club

The combative defender has been linked to a move to Atletico Madrid, and now Barcelona has expressed interest.

Romero has said he wants to move to La Liga.

New Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has revamped the team and strengthened the defence with Mickey van de Ven signing a new long-term contract. Tottenham have already brought in centre-backs Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi.

Tottenham have now spent 202 million pounds in the summer transfer window as De Zerbi puts last season’s 17th place behind him and pushes for a European spot. He will be focused on turning around the club’s culture and its mentality.

Djed Spence has said he wants to go to Liverpool, while Andy Robertson has moved across to Tottenham from Liverpool and brings considerable experience and a winner’s mentality.

Cristian Romero had a good World Cup and many clubs now fancy the Argentine. He has said he is open to a move to Tottenham’s bitter rivals Arsenal. Tottenham would be reluctant to sell him to Arsenal, and if the north London side did decide to do so, they would be asking for a sale price of close to 100 million pounds.

Romero had signed a contract with Tottenham until 2029. Inter Milan has also expressed interest in signing Romero, but can the Italians find the cash to secure his services?
