Danielle Williams and Machel Cedenio were among the winners at Sunday’s 2021 Ed Murphey Classic in the American Track League held in Memphis, Tennessee.
In a meet of relatively average performances except for Marvin Bracy’s season-best tying 9.85, Williams emerged victorious in the 100m hurdles that she won in 12.64, just outside her season-best 12.62 set in Georgia in July.
Second place went to the USA’s Sharika Nelvis, who has been struggling for form this season. She ran 12.81, just outside her season best of 12.80 set in Hungary in July. Evonne Britton was a distant third in 12.96.
Cedenio, who has also suffered from indifferent form this season, had a confidence-boosting win in the 400m. The Trinidadian boasts a personal best of 44.01 but only managed 45.98 to secure victory over Khallifah Rosser, who ran 46.35 and the injury-prone Javon Francis. The Jamaican, who collapsed on the track at the Jamaican national championships in July, stopped the clock at 47.84.

Also, on the track in Memphis, Antigua and Barbuda’s Cejhae Greene ran 10.08 for third place in the 100m that Bracy won going away from the field, leaving Greene and runner-up Jerome Blake (10.06) in his wake.
Jevaughn Minzie, who was fifth in the 100m in 10.15, finished second in the 200m in 20.41. The race was won by Kyree King in 20.15. Devon Allen was third in 20.57.
Tynia Gaither of the Bahamas was third in the women’s race won by Dezereah Bryant in 22.78. Brittany Brown was second in 23.05 while Gaither clocked 23.33.
There was another third place finish for a Caribbean athlete in the Women 400m that was won by Shamier Little in 50.65 over Jessica Beard, who clocked 50.85. Anastasia LeRoy, who has struggled for form this season, was not even in the same zip code as she was a distant third in 54.15.
