Kingston College crowned themselves the best schoolboy football team across the island, beating Garvey Maceo High 4-3 on penalties after battling to a 1-1 draw in normal time on the grounds of St Elizabeth Technical High School.
Omarion O’Brian gave Clarendon-based Garvey Maceo a 63rd minute lead but KC struck back courtesy of an own goal by Tyreek McKenley in minute 83 turning in a Damani Smith cross into his own net.
It was on to the dreaded penalty kicks which saw KC emerging champions. KC went first and young Zaire Douse saw his effort saved before Devany McIntosh scored for Garvey Maceo. Guyanese Matrim Martin netted KC’s second kick while Tyreek McKenley skied his effort for Maceo. KC’s 14-year-old Kelvin Brown also saw his shot saved but Delano Thompson kicked wide for Maceo keeping the score at 1-1 after three penalty kicks each.
Davion Clarke then converted KC’s fourth kick as did Malik Robinson for Garvey Maceo. Damani “Messi” Smith scored KC’s fifth kick and Rajay McLaughlin scored for Garvey Maceo sending the game into sudden death. Kamaul Patterson confidently put away KC’s sixth kick but Livingston Donaldson kicked wide handing KC the title 4-3.

This was KC’s second triumph over Gavey Maceo in the Olivier Shield having beaten them 2-0 in 2021. It’s also KC’s 11th hold on the Olivier Shield—the supremacy of schoolboy football following victories in 1949, 1952, 1957, 1964, 1895, 1975, (shared in 1981 and 1985), 1986 and 2021.

KC joined Cornwall College on 11—the joint fourth best and behind Jamaica College with 21, Munro College with 19 and St George’s College with 14. Jamaica College won the Olivier Shield in 1909, 1910 and 1913 before the Manning Cup was created in 1914. Munro College won the Olivier Shield twice in 1911 and 1914 as Potsdam College before renaming to Munro College and last won it some 73 years ago in 1951, a year after the daCosta Cup was created in 1950.
It was KC’s second Under-19 title following the Manning Cup and their third as they captured the Under-14 crown as well.
