Removal is in keeping with Digicel’s promise of being transparent with no hidden charges

Digicel is removing the pay-as-you-go data in the Eastern Caribbean in keeping with its promise of being transparent with no hidden charges, no tricky terms and conditions and no leaving customers hanging.
As such, the Jamaica-based international telecoms provider is giving customers a better way to enjoy data. Pay-as-you-go data, otherwise known as pay go, refers to paying per megabyte for data consumption outside of a Digicel Prime Bundle or Plan.
Digicel’s customers can now activate a Digicel Prime Bundle and always have data on-the-go with an abundance of Any Use Data, along with dedicated data allotments to use with each app in the Digicel ecosystem.
That Includes Bip, Billo, D’music, G Oloud, Loop, Playgo and Sportsmax, along with the self-service platform, Mydigicel App, where customers can check their usage, top up, activate plans and even pay bills.

In commenting on the move, Joanna Spencer, chief executive officer of Digicel, Antigua, Barbuda & Montserrat, said: “We’re putting customers back in control of their digital life. Many of our customers would have expressed that accidental data usage of background apps was a pain point as it resulted in loss of credit. Today we are ensuring that data will only be used when a customer agrees to do so.”
Spencer added: “The removal of pay go is all about trust and transparency and holding ourselves accountable. It’s about doing the best and being the best for our customers. We are working with our customers to make sure that a promise made is a promise kept, and it’s our aim to continue to listen to our customers and to work on overcoming their pain points as we strive to be better together.”
Commenting on Antigua Newsroom‘s online portal, a Digicel customer named caribbeanlady questioned: “So, does this mean that all those customers, who had their services disconnected and are asked to pay for a month that is in the future, will get their internet reconnected?? Where is the ministry responsible for this travesty? God forbid that you had your internet disconnected, they bill you for two or three additional months, which you nah use. Then if you want a reconnection, you have to pay for those months, to square off your account. Oh how people suffer her for lack of government not looking into our affairs. Transparency my back foot.”
