Trips to the wreck of the Titanic do not always end in tragedy. Canadian film director James Cameron is among the most frequent visitors of the wreck of the Titanic in history with a total so far of 33 dives.
His first dive was in 1995, while he was preparing to make the film Titanic, and he has since returned to the wreck numerous times, both for research and for personal exploration.
Cameron filmed over 12,000 hours of footage of the wreck and spent a total of 72 hours 12,000 ft underwater at the Titanic site in addition to titular film, also released In 2003, James Cameron released a documentary titled Ghosts of the Abyss, which chronicled his return to the Titanic wreck with a team of experts.
In 2012, Cameron became the first person to do a solo descent to the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean, the Mariana Trench, in the Deepsea Challenger submersible, over 35,000 ft below sea level, near triple the depth of the missing OceanGate submarine
