A new airline company has been formed in the Dominican Republic and is set to take to the air this month.

The company, AraJet Airline, is an ultra-low-cost carrier headquartered in Santo Domingo. It will make its first flight on September 15.

The carrier will start off with routes to Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Peru and other Caribbean destinations.

The Caribbean destinations that Arajet will be flying to include Aruba, Curaçao and St Maarten as well as Colombian cities Cartagena and Barranquilla.

The company is expected to add a new route soon between the Dominican Republic and Guatemala City, Guatemala.

That route is expected to begin on September 28.
