Double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson made a welcome return to the track, finishing third in the 60m at the Camperdown Classic, while World 100m champion Oblique Seville ran a personal best in the 400m on Saturday.

Thompson, the 2016 and 2020 Olympic 100m and 200m champion, ran her first race in 18 months and was third in 7.24 in the 60m behind Levanya Williams, who won in 7.17. Trinidad and Tobago’s Shaniqua Bascombe of Uptimum in 7.23. Promising Theianna-Lee Terrelonge was fourth in 7.31.

Thompson-Herah, who had fans on their feet the moment she entered the track, said she was just glad to be back.

“First, I have to give God thanks, you know, to carry me through that race healthy. I am satisfied and grateful, I am thankful and satisfied.  It’s like months and years of rust,” said Thompson-Herah.

“I want to have fun and work on some of the things I am working on in practice. A little bit of butterfly kick in, but I know how to control that,” she explained.

Seville ran a personal best of 46.98 in the 400m, showing his improved speed endurance, but it was 2023 World 400m champion Antonio Watson who was quickest, winning his heat in 45.11.

Former KC star Tahj-Marques White, running for the first time as a Racer athlete, won his heat in 45.59, a new personal best on his seasonal debut. He won the Class One 400m in 45.84 last March.

The 2025 World Championship 200m bronze medallist, Bryan Levell, won the men’ 6.56 ahead of Bouwahjgie Nkrumie in a personal best of 6.62 on his seasonal debut. Roshawn Clarke who won Heat A was third overall in 6.62.
