As we enter the Yuletide season, a time traditionally marked by reflection, gratitude, and togetherness, the Jamaica Emergency Medicine Association extends warm seasonal greetings to all Jamaicans, both at home and abroad.
This year has tested our resilience in profound ways. Many families continue to grieve the loss of loved ones, recover from the impact of extreme weather events, and navigate economic and social uncertainty. Yet, even in the face of hardship, we have witnessed extraordinary courage, compassion, and solidarity within our communities and among our healthcare workers.
At this time of year, we urge Jamaicans to place health and safety at the forefront of all celebrations. Emergency departments historically see a surge in preventable injuries and illnesses during the holiday season. Please exercise caution on our roads—speeding, impaired driving, and fatigue claim far too many lives at Christmas. No celebration is worth a life lost.
We also encourage moderation in alcohol consumption, safe food-handling practices, and vigilance around children and the elderly.
Pay attention to your mental well-being and that of those around you. The holidays can be especially difficult for individuals experiencing grief, loneliness, or anxiety. Reach out, check in, and do not hesitate to seek professional help when needed.
On behalf of JEMA, I wish to commend our emergency medicine physicians, nurses, paramedics, and support staff who will once again be on the front lines throughout the holidays, providing care with professionalism and compassion. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed, and the nation owes you a deep debt of gratitude.
May this Yuletide season bring moments of peace, healing, and renewed hope. Let us enter the new year with a shared commitment to protecting life, supporting one another, and building a healthier, safer Jamaica.

Season’s greetings and best wishes for the New Year.
