The Bustamante Hospital for Children in St Andrew has gotten a $70 million Drug Serv Pharmacy, which was officially opened at the facility Wednesday morning (July 7).

The facility is expected to minimise the financial cost and time it takes to get medication for parents and guardians, who have children at the hospital.

The medication will also be cheaper.

It will be part of a bigger plan to modernise and upgrade the 58-year-old facility, with other major initiatives being planned that include a $120 million Overnight Parent Suite and a $500 million Cardiac Ward.

The Overnight Parent Suite will be for parents and guardians who accompany their ill children to the hospital and will not be able to return home.

The Drug Serv Pharmacy at the hospital was built by the National Health Fund (NHF) with the National Housing Trust contributing to the construction of the Overnight Parent Suite and the Cardiac Ward.

The appearance of the hospital will also be upgraded with green areas and animals.
