After initially denying any wrongdoing, former Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central Dwayne Vaz has pleaded guilty to breaching the Integrity Commission (IC) Act.

This follows the tabling of an IC investigation report in Parliament last week which accused Vaz of failing to provide information requested by the director of information and complaints in respect to the statutory declaration he submitted in 2019.

In the report, the commission said Vaz was lawfully requested to provide information to the commission at the material time and having failed to do so, committed an offence under Section 43(1)(b) of the Integrity Commission Act.

Vaz, in response to the IC investigation report, insisted that he adhered to the requirements set forth in the Integrity Commission Act.

The director of corruption prosecution ruled that Vaz be charged for breaches to the Integrity Commission Act.

Vaz pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court this morning, April 30.

He is set to return to court on Thursday, June 6.
