A study done by researchers at the University of Dschang in Cameroon has revealed that consuming grasshoppers, specifically the Ruspolia nitidula species, can provide substantial health benefits, including increased libido.
The study, conducted on rats, discovered that a diet rich in grasshoppers improved libido, boosted sleep quality, promoted healthier hair, and contributed to weight management. Rich in protein, essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, grasshoppers are seen as a potent alternative protein source. Rats fed this diet showed increased self-drive, superior sleep patterns with an extra twelve (12) hours per week, and improved hair health.

Lead researcher Ngnaniyi Abdoul believes that these benefits could extend to humans, making grasshoppers an exciting, health-enhancing food source.
While more research is needed, these findings highlight the potential of insects as a sustainable and nutritious part of the human diet. The study adds to the growing body of research supporting entomophagy, or the practice of eating insects, as a viable option to improve global nutrition.
Besides the health benefits, grasshoppers offer an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional livestock, with a lower carbon footprint and resource usage.
