Minister of Education and Youth Fayval Williams says all schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday (September 9).

While some schools officially opened their doors to students on Monday (September 2) for the 2024/2025 academic year, some schools are still undergoing repairs following the impact of Hurricane Beryl.

“As of yesterday, of the 1009 public schools, which are primary and high schools, only two reported not having students back yet in the face-to-face or in the virtual environment. But they expect to have full engagement by Monday, September 9,” Williams said.

“There are four primary schools where there is some limited engagement in the virtual space; they are not back in the face-to-face yet; they are just awaiting the final completion of work that needs to be done, but they too are expected to also be back by Monday, September 9,” she added.

Munro College in St Elizabeth and Happy Grove High School in Portland are among the schools that have not yet reopened.

The Education Minister said construction work is ongoing at these institutions to aid in their reopening for Monday. She was speaking at a post-cabinet press briefing on Wednesday, September 4.
