Jamaican e-learning companies EduFocal Limited and One on One Educational Services Limited were named among the world’s top 350 edtech enterprises in the second annual ranking by TIME Magazine.

EduFocal, with a score of 74.4, was ranked 225th in the world ahead of One on One Educational Services, which posted 69.0 to secure 348th place.

It is a major achievement for the two privately held, market-listed companies, which were the only edtech firms from the Caribbean to be featured in TIME‘s World’s Top EdTech Companies of 2025 list.

For his part, EduFocal CEO Gordon Swaby thanked the respected US publication for the recognition in a post on X on Thursday (June 12).

Partnering with international data company Statista, TIME Magazine said that 2025 winners were selected following an analysis of companies’ financial strength and industry impact.

“The evaluation process involved assessing all relevant companies within the global edtech sector that exhibited above-average performance on financial metrics in their geographical region. Subsequently, the selection was narrowed down to include only those companies that not only excelled financially but also demonstrated significant industry impact within their specific categories,” TIME noted in a methodology report.

Weighted against a potential maximum score of 100, Statista analysed “revenue, employee, and funding data, obtained from publicly available sources like annual reports, company websites, through media monitoring, and via databases”.

Service impact and product quality were also considered in the ranking, as ultimately, TIME wanted to showcase “companies that not only excelled financially but also demonstrated significant industry impact within their specific categories”.

The rankings instructively point to the potential of e-learning, especially the ongoing application of coding and artificial intelligence, and found that high-scoring edtech companies from the United States, India and China dominated the 2025 rankings.

Chinese edtech company Codemao, which topped the ranking with a 99.8 score, tutors students on coding and programming fundamentals, letting them develop their own games and animations.

In fact, China-headquartered edtech companies occupied six of the top ten global placements.
