Businessman and lead principal of St. Thomas’s Sun Coast Beach Club development project is to replace Adam Moss on the Board of Caribbean Airlines.

In this capacity, he will be representing the Government of Jamaica and will sit on the Board for the next three years.

“On May 2010, the Government entered into an agreement with Caribbean Airlines pursuant to which Caribbean Airlines obtained the routes of Air Jamaica and agreed to provide sustainable airlift to Jamaica. The Government remains the owner of the remaining asset and liabilities of Air Jamaica Limited. Under an agreement, Caribbean Airlines has leased some of those assets from Air Jamaica Limited. The Government continues to repay the long-term loans,” read a former issued report.

In October of last year, Caribbean Airlines was named the Caribbean’s Leading Airline Brand for the ninth consecutive year.

At the start of this year, Caribbean Airlines discontinued four regional flights as it looks to streamline its route performance and resource deployment. It is in the process of restructuring its Barbados hub.

Nirmala Ramai was appointed CEO of the regional carrier in October last year, tasked with modernising operations and improving efficiency.

Kevin Frith has been a businessman for twenty years. He is also the head of Ideas Execution Limited. Last year he entered politics taking on Opposition Spokesperson on Finance Julian Robinson in the constituency of St Andrew South Eastern during September’s General Election.

As TCF Holding CEO and developer of Sun Coast Beach Club, a 90 acre beach front property, Frith explained: “ The concept behind Sun Coast is to build something so that homeowners will feel the pride of coming home  and the urge to come home because  there is so much at Sun Coast for their comfort. The concept is a resort-style design. The idea is to give you something that when you get home, you don’t want to leave.”

Sun Coast Beach Club contains villas, apartments, townhouses, a supermarket, an urgent care facility, EV charging stations and other amenities.

The Prime Minister of Trinidad & Tobago Kamla Persad-Bissessar has mandated that Caribbean Airlines becomes profitable within two years.

When Butch Stewart gave up Air Jamaica, the Government of Jamaica acquired a 16 per cent stake in Caribbean Airlines at a cost of US$28.5 million with Trinidad & Tobago holding the lion share of 84 per cent of the airline.

The Government of Jamaica’s stake was reduced to 12 per cent in 2017 and its value in Caribbean Airlines has been placed at around US$31 million.

Caribbean Airlines has failed to file audited statements for many years.

Last year KPMG completed an audit for the year ended December 31, 2016 which revealed Caribbean Airlines accumulated a deficit of TT$2.17 billion with a total comprehensive loss of $TT700 million for that year.

Financial statements for eight years are still outstanding.
