England is now onto the next round of the Women’s T20 World Cup after handing West Indies their first defeat of the tournament with a 38 run victory at Lord’s.

The hosts piled up 186 runs thanks to a brilliant 65 from Danni Wyatt Hodge and 43 from Heather Knight. Despite losing two early wickets, England recovered well and kept the scoreboard moving throughout the innings.

West Indies never quite found the momentum needed in the chase. Captain Hayley Matthews’ dismissal brought on strong discussions after a review overturned the on field decision.

Chinelle Henry provided some resistance with a quick fire 51 from 30 balls and also impressed with the ball, but the Caribbean side ultimately fell short.

The loss leaves West Indies still in the hunt for a semifinal place, but they will need a win over Ireland in their final group match to guarantee their spot.
