The Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) joined the global sporting community in celebrating Olympic Day at Emancipation Park. The landmark venue in Kingston provided a vibrant and open setting for the day’s activities.

The event promoted participation in sport while highlighting the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

The celebration brought together athletes, coaches, supporters, and members of the public in an interactive environment centred around table tennis. Open-play sessions and friendly matches allowed participants of all ages and skill levels to engage with the sport. Many people came out to Emancipation Park to play table tennis with the association, creating a lively atmosphere that reflected growing interest in the game across Jamaica.

The event also served as an important community outreach moment for JTTA, giving newcomers the opportunity to experience the sport while interacting with registered athletes and coaches. The energy on the ground demonstrated the association’s ongoing efforts to expand participation and make table tennis more accessible to all persons.

A key focus of the day was the continued development of the sport in Jamaica and the strengthening of the JTTA’s athlete pathway system. This strategic direction is being spearheaded by Aubyn Henry, who continues to play a leading role in building and structuring the association’s development programme.

Speaking on the long-term vision, Aubyn Henry, chief strategy and development officer, stated:

“We are building a structured development programme with clear pathways for our athletes, and our focus centres firmly on preparing them to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games. This is not just a short-term goal, but a long-term commitment to growth and excellence. We are investing in our players from the grassroots level to the elite stage. Every programme we implement is designed to strengthen performance and consistency. We want our athletes to gain real international exposure and experience. The work being done is about shaping a stronger future for Jamaican table tennis. With the right structure and commitment, we believe we can compete at the highest level on the world stage.”

The Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) provided key support and coordination for the Olympic Day celebrations at Emancipation Park, ensuring the successful delivery of the event and reinforcing its commitment to promoting Olympic values and sport development in Jamaica under President Karl Samuda.

Under the leadership of Ingrid Graham, the JTTA continues to expand participation and strengthen the foundation of table tennis across Jamaica. Her leadership remains focused on inclusion, development, and creating opportunities for athletes to progress from grassroots involvement to international competition.

Moreover, Olympic Day at Emancipation Park served as both a celebration and a reminder of sport’s power to unite communities.

The JTTA used the occasion to encourage wider participation in table tennis, positioning the sport as a tool for discipline, fitness and personal growth.

Looking ahead, the Association remains firmly committed to producing athletes capable of competing at the highest level, with a clear focus on the 2028 Olympic Games. Through structured development, community engagement, and consistent training pathways, JTTA continues to build momentum toward its long-term goals.
