The Atlanta Falcons suddenly lost their offensive line when right tackle Kaleb McGary announced he is stepping away from the NFL. McGary, who started at the position for six seasons, had been expected to return in 2026 after missing all of last season due to a knee injury sustained on the final day of training camp.

The right tackle spot is particularly crucial for Atlanta, which features two left handed quarterbacks, Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa, making McGary’s role in protecting the blindside vital. His absence leaves a gap in a line that has consistently ranked among the league’s best and played a key role in the rise of All Pro running back Bijan Robinson.

To fill the void, the Falcons acted quickly, signing former Kansas City Chiefs tackle Jawaan Taylor to a one year deal. McGary’s departure comes less than a year after signing a two year contract extension and follows a season where reserve tackle Storm Norton also suffered a season ending injury, which points to the challenges Atlanta now faces along their offensive front.
