Once again, Riverton City Disposal Site has been set ablaze and both the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) are working frantically together to quell the flames.

Though the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, the Riverton City waste disposal site has been the scene of multiple blazes in the past, which result in plumes of hazardous smoke billowing into the air. This blankets surrounding communities with pungent, dense smoke.

While the authorities work to put out the flames, the NSWMA reports that this latest fire is located on the periphery of the disposal site, posing significant challenges due to the difficulty with accessibility and windy conditions. However, first responders are confident that despite these obstacles, the situation will be handled as they take all necessary measures to ensure the fire is snuffed out and that the neighbouring communities remain safe.
