Jujutsu Kaisen fans are hyped this weekend, as the hit anime series unveiled its first teaser trailer for the supernatural battle shōnen’s upcoming second season.
The first half of the season, premiering in July, will focus on the Hidden Inventory Arc and the immediate past of fan-favourite sorcerer Gojo Satoru.
Beginning in 2006, 11 years prior to the current timeline, season two shows a younger and naive Satoru alongside classmate Suguru Geto as second-year students at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School.
The pair, who often clash due to conflicting views on jujutsu and its role in modern society, are tasked to retrieve and escort Star Plasma Vessel, Riko Amanai.
Despite being a teenager, Amanai is thrust into an all-too-important role and poised to merge with powerful barrier user Master Tengen. Unbeknownst to the trio, Amanai has become the target of two fanatical groups who do not want her to assimilate with Tengen.
Things take a turn for the worst when Toji Zenin is contracted to assassinate Amanai, opening a conflict between the jujutsu pair and the ‘Sorcerer Killer’.
Events of the Hidden Inventory Arc, which take place before Gojo’s ascent as the strongest sorcerer alive and Geto’s villainous spiral, will then segue into the critically acclaimed Shibuya Incident Arc which goes back to the present day.
Visuals from the minute-and-and-a-half trailer, released on Friday (March 24), have renewed hope among fans that animation studio MAPPA will deliver another excellent adaptation of Gege Akutami’s hit manga series.
