Foreign Minister holds bilateral talks with UK foreign secretary

Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, met recently with Yvette Cooper, Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, where they spoke about the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa to Jamaica.

Particular attention was given to the severe damage in the west, the loss of infrastructure, displaced communities, and interruptions to essential services, including healthcare.

Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and Yvette Cooper, Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, met to discuss the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa on Jamaica.

The meeting also allowed Jamaica to convey appreciation in person for the UK’s early humanitarian support, including the presence and assistance of the Royal Navy’s HMS Trent.

They also explored additional avenues to advance recovery and reconstruction efforts, as well as support for Haiti, preparations for the UK-Caribbean Forum and the Second Jamaica-UK Strategic Dialogue.
