Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua of Britain has been hospitalised following a car crash in Nigeria that left two people dead.

Reports suggested that Joshua was in the back seat of an SUV that collided with a stationary truck.

Social media video footage shows Joshua being helped from the wreckage, and he was clearly in pain.

The 36-year-old Joshua was visiting his ancestral hometown, Sagamu, a town in Ogun State, as part of his celebration after defeating Jake Paul on December 19. Joshua was born in Watford, England.

However,  his family is well-known in Sagamu, located in south-west Nigeria, and it is reported that his grandfather was a wealthy landowner.

There are plans to name a new boxing gym in Ogun in Joshua’s honour, as he always fights with the Nigerian flag alongside the Union Jack.

Reports suggested that Joshua took home a massive $184 million from the fight with celebrity boxer Paul, and he is now looking to fight former champion Tyson Fury in what would be another hefty payday.
