Rudolph Speid has been confirmed as head coach of Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz team following a lengthy meeting by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) on Friday.
Speid, who told Our Today on Thursday that he is a “nationalist” and is ready to serve if called upon, was selected despite many other names being banded about, including former Canadian head coach John Herdman and former Reggae Boyz assistant Miguel Coley and Theodore Whitmore, the former head coach.
Speid will take up his post on December 15.
The JFF announced the interim appointment via a press release.
Speid’s selection comes ahead of a crucial World Cup qualifying game against New Caledonia in March, and follows the sudden resignation of Steve McClaren on Tuesday, November 18, after the Reggae Boyz failed to beat Curaçao to qualify for the World Cup out of the group stage.
“The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) wishes to advise the public that President Michael Ricketts has confirmed that, in the interim, the JFF Board has convened and reached an agreement regarding the technical leadership of the Senior Men’s National Team, the Reggae Boyz.
“Following the Board’s deliberations, Mr Rudolph Speid has been appointed to assume the role of Head Coach effective December 15, 2025, until March 31, 2026, while we are in discussions with Mr Miguel Coley’s agent to serve as Assistant Coach,” the JFF release said.
The JFF said these appointments have been made to ensure continuity in the team’s preparation and performance as the Federation continues to finalise the necessary logistical and administrative arrangements.
President Ricketts emphasised that this interim structure is aimed at maintaining stability during this important period for Jamaican football.
He further noted that the Federation is actively working through additional organisational matters, after which a formal update will be provided.
“The JFF remains committed to supporting the Reggae Boyz and ensuring that the team is well-positioned for success in its upcoming engagements,” the JFF said.
