Jamaica’s emerging football talent will take centre stage on Sunday, April 26, 2026, as the All-Star Jamaica youth showcase unfolds at Ashenheim Stadium on the grounds of Jamaica College, featuring a dynamic North versus South format and the island’s top Under-14 and Under-16 players.

The headline encounter will see North Urban All Star U16 facing off against South Urban All Star U16, in what is expected to be a high-tempo, competitive clash highlighting the next generation of Jamaican football excellence.

Conceptualised by Leighton Davis, the All-Star Jamaica initiative was designed to identify, develop, and showcase standout youth talent emerging from urban schoolboy football competitions. Over time, it has grown into a respected platform bridging grassroots football and more structured pathways, including schoolboy competitions and national youth programmes.

“It is about more than just a match. It is about creating opportunity, giving young players exposure, building their confidence, and helping them understand the discipline required to succeed at higher levels,” Davis said.

The showcase brings together players who have demonstrated excellence in the urban Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Under-14 and Under-16 competitions, many of whom may not otherwise gain access to elite exposure.

Players selected for the All-Star teams are drawn directly from high schools that participated in ISSA’s urban U14 and U16 competitions. Coaches are invited to nominate players based on allotted slots, after which organisers conduct a thorough review process before finalising the squads.

This collaborative approach ensures that the most deserving and high-performing young athletes are given the opportunity to compete on a larger stage.

At the U16 level in particular, the showcase represents a critical stage in player development, where talent begins to mature and pathways to higher levels become clearer. “We want these players to see the bigger picture. Football can open doors, education, scholarships, and even international opportunities,” Davis said.

Beyond competition, the initiative promotes discipline, teamwork, and community pride, values that extend far beyond the field of play.

Fans can expect an exciting double-header, with the Under-14 match kicking off at 2:15 p.m., followed by the Under-16 feature game at 4:00 p.m. Gates open at 1:00 p.m., setting the stage for an afternoon of high-quality youth football.

Set against the historic backdrop of Ashenheim Stadium, known for its rich sporting tradition, the event is expected to attract strong support from students, parents, alumni, and football enthusiasts.

The atmosphere promises to reflect the vibrant culture of Jamaican football, energetic, passionate, and deeply rooted in community identity. This year’s staging is bolstered by strong corporate support, led by title sponsor Express Canteen, alongside partners Wynlee Distributors and Project to Project.

“Partnerships like these are essential. They allow us to create a professional environment for these young players and expand the reach and impact of the tournament,” Davis said.

Chief Executive Officer of Express Canteen, Ryan Foster, also expressed strong support for the initiative. “One of the fundamental mandates of Express Canteen is youth development through sports. So, this initiative is an immediate fit for some of the core values of Express Canteen,” Foster said.

“My wife Simone and I have always welcomed the use of sporting competition to not only showcase talent on the field of play but to also instil key characteristics of fair play, honesty, teamwork and sportsmanship in the participants,” he added.

He added, “We hope for another successful staging and one that is even bigger and better, given the expansion to U16 as well. This will definitely help in the development of the next generation of Reggae Boys.”

As Jamaica continues to invest in youth development, initiatives like All Star Jamaica are playing a pivotal role in shaping the country’s football future. “We are investing in the future of Jamaican football, and the future is right here, in these young players who are ready to rise,” Davis affirmed.

With its North versus South rivalry, expanded age categories, and strong developmental focus, the 2026 staging promises to be more than just a sporting event, it is a celebration of talent, opportunity, and the limitless potential of Jamaica’s youth.
