R&B swooner The Weeknd and hip-hop artiste Roddy Ricch lead the American Music Awards (AMAs) line-up with eight nominations, ahead of the Sunday, November 22 main event.

Set to be held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, the AMAs recognises the most popular artists and albums of 2020.

The show, a staple in the US entertainment calendar and now in its 48th staging, sees Hidden Figures actress Taraji P Henson as host.

All eyes will be on pop superstar Taylor Swift, who could extend her record-breaking hold as the winningest musician in AMA history. She currently enjoys 29 AMA awards and, with four nominations including Artist of the Year, might dominate further.

Fast-rising rap talent Megan Thee Stallion continues her breakthrough year with five nods; established acts Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Doja Cat, Bad Bunny, and DaBaby all earned four nominations.

It will be full night after the AMA red carpet, with a stellar line-up of performances that includes Latin acts Jennifer Lopez and Maluma; Dan + Shay; Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendez; Doja Cat and Bebe Rexha; The Weeknd and legendary saxophonist Kenny G.

Confirmed. Future Nostalgia pop singer Dua Lipa will be performing at Sunday’s AMAs. (Photo: Facebook @AMAs)

Pop princess Katy Perry; K-Pop group BTS; Megan Thee Stallion; rap icon Nelly; Dua Lipa; Billie Eilish; Lewis Capaldi; Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez; as well as Machine Gun Kelly are also slated to perform.
