The Jamaica Government announced that all government offices, except those providing essential services, will close today (July 2) by midday.

This directive comes as Category 5 Hurricane Beryl continues its advance towards Jamaica.

Prime Minister Holness previously urged Jamaicans to make the necessary preparations for the impending hurricane.

A release from the Office of the Prime Minister reads:

“Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared that all government offices, except offices that provide essential services, will be closed today by midday in anticipation of the impact of Hurricane Beryl… Citizens are encouraged to use this time to prepare for the hurricane by securing their property and getting relevant items to last up to three days or until the hurricane passes.”
