A trough over Jamaica produced a “gust front” that came with heavy winds across sections of the island Monday afternoon and disrupted the electricity supply in south-eastern parishes.
An account on the social media platform X, known as Weather Jamaica (@weatherjamaica), had forecast the weather conditions from Sunday, June 15, noting the occurrence of overcast skies and thundershowers with windy conditions.
The account later stated that a trough impacting St Catherine, Kingston, St Andrew and St Thomas was the reason for the heavy winds. It further advised that the winds were not due to a “freak storm” but a “gust front”.
Still, some residents in Kingston took to social media to describe the weather phenomenon as a “freak breeze”, adding that it caused electricity disruptions.
