Jamaican singer-songwriter Baby Cham, who now goes by Cham, is celebrating another year of life. Born Damion Beckett, the artiste today celebrates his 43rd birthday.
Throughout his career ,Cham has released multiple party anthems, and has done international collaborations with the likes of Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Akon. Here are a few songs you may have forgotten from the artiste that deserve a spot on your playlist.
8. Funny Man
This 1996 track featuring Jamaican singer Mr Eazy, was produced by Dave ‘Rude Boy’ Kelly.
7. Many Many
Another 1996 song from his WOW: Story Volume 2, Many Many, like most dancehall tracks during this time, is about having a multitude of girls, which explains the song title, Many Many. In Jamaican terms, Cham uses Many Many to boast about his nature as a ‘gyalis’. The track was produced by Dave Kelly.
6. Tun Up
Featuring his wife, O (Ophelia Beckett), Tun Up celebrates the body and abilities of a woman in bed. In the opening of the track, it appears O has left her significant other, which seems to have driven him to some form of insanity.
O shares, however, that he is no longer her concern, noting that it is easy for her to find someone else, due her more than average bedroom abilities.
Cham also appears to be on her side, encouraging her to flee if she feels the need.
5. Wine
Another successful and mainstream tune by the artiste, Wine, which also features his wife, celebrates Jamaican ‘women’ who translate their dancing abilities in the bedroom.
Throughout the chorus of the track, O proudly sings of her ability to wine. Cham also seems quite impressed with her abilities, heavily praising her performance in the bedroom.
4. Heading To The Top
Cham in this track glorifies his abilities, declaring to the world that he is coming brand new, and is ready to conquer the world with his music.
Heading To The Top is the second track featured on the artiste’s WOW: The Story album.
3. Another Level
Another Level, one the artiste’s most popular songs, was released in 1999 and features dancehall veteran, Bounty Killer.
A feel-good party anthem, Another Level not only features self-praise by the artistes, but also highlights social issues including crime and an unstable economy. This is another Cham record that was produced by Dave Kelly.
2. Vitamin S
The 11th track on the artiste’s Ghetto Story album, Vitamin S, as do many of Cham’s songs, speaks of sexual pleasures given to a woman.
In the 2003 track, Cham explains that if your woman is acting out of character, all she really needs to feel better is some Vitamin S.
1. Ghetto Story Remix
2003’s Ghetto Story features American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys. The original is considered by many to be one the greatest hits in dancehall.
Cham details his life growing up in the inner city, sharing many of the challenges he experienced as a boy and now appreciates the fact he survived and has lived to tell his ‘survival story’ .
