The Heart Institute of the Caribbean (HIC) has announced the 2025 staging of its International Masters of Medicine Conference, taking place on 18–19 January at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.
This conference, which continues to be the leading cardiovascular event in the Caribbean, will focus on the theme ‘Her Heart Matters’, addressing cardiovascular disease in women with a special emphasis on the relationship between menopause and heart health.
Dr Ernest Madu, founder and executive chairman of HIC, emphasised the significance of this initiative, stating, “At HIC, our mission is to ensure that patients in Jamaica have access to world-class cardiovascular care. By aligning with Yale University, a global leader in cardiovascular medicine, we are poised to innovate and pioneer new advancements in care delivery. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to evidence-based medicine and academic excellence.”

While associate professor of medicine (cardiovascular medicine) and vice chief of cardiovascular medicine (education) at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Edward J. Miller MD, PHD, shared, “This year’s Masters of Medicine conference will help us continue to enhance clinical capacity in cardiovascular medicine throughout the region by sharing some of the latest developments in women’s health, cardiomyopathies like cardiac amyloidosis, and other cardiac conditions. Through our collaboration with the Heart Institute of the Caribbean, I am optimistic that we will continue improving access to high-quality care in Jamaica while also building bi-directional research programs to advance our collective understanding of cardiovascular disease.”
The event will feature esteemed speakers from Yale School of Medicine, Harvard University, UCLA, and other top institutions. These experts will share insights into the latest developments in women’s heart health, cardiomyopathies, and advancements in cardiovascular care.
The conference will also address key issues such as cardiomyopathy, cardiac amyloidosis, health equity, and strategies to improve access to cardiovascular care, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
This initiative supports HIC’s mission to enhance local capacity for advanced cardiovascular care, reduce the need for overseas treatment, and ensure that Jamaicans have access to world-class expertise.
