Recording artist and Digicel ambassador Jesse Royal joins the Digicel team on the ground in Montego Bay to help with relief efforts.

The spirit of Montego Bay has always been its people. Neighbours show up for each other, communities rise together, and resilience never fades.

This week, Digicel brought that same energy to the streets of Catherine Hall, West Green, and Salt Marsh as part of its ongoing relief efforts, offering care packages, charging stations, and connections to residents across the communities.

The team started off in Catherine Hall at the Catherine Hall Primary & Infant School before making their way through neighbouring communities, spreading encouragement and support along the way.

Hundreds of care packages were shared throughout the day, each one handed over with a smile and a quick check-in to see how families were coping.

It didn’t take long for the word to spread.

Once the charging stations were set up, neighbours called neighbours, and the street came alive with people eager to power up and reach loved ones.

Residents were able to make calls, send messages, and reconnect, bringing a moment of relief to many.

One of the stops included a nursing home to several seniors in West Green Meadows.

Flood waters had risen to almost five feet inside the building, leaving a visible water line on the wall as a lasting reminder of last Tuesday’s events.

Some residents were temporarily relocated while others were moved upstairs for safety, and the Digicel team spent time with the elders and the staff who continue to support them every day.

With reminders of the hurricane stacked at the doorway, Digicel team head inside the Elder Care Hostel in West Green Meadows, Mobay to meet staff and provide packages.
In spite of current challenges, their smiles remain. Residents of Salt Marsh, Mobay share a moment with Public Relations Manager Brithney Clarke and Digicel Ambassador/artist Jesse Royal.

You could still see the aftermath of Melissa in the surroundings, but for most, not on the faces of the people.

What stood out most was hope. The work continues, and so does Digicel’s commitment to show up, support, and continue working tirelessly to keep Jamaica connected as we rebuild.
