Member of Parliament for Western St Andrew Anthony Hylton is calling on the Government to provide resources to expand the physical capacity of Edith Dalton James High School in Duhaney Park, St Andrew, to meet the current and projected increase in the school’s population.

Hylton, who was making his contribution to the State of the Constituency Debate in Parliament on Tuesday, October 31, said the education ministry has responded positively to his proposal for a shift in the school curriculum to include courses in global supply chain management and logistics.

Hylton noted that Edith Dalton High School was the only government-funded school offering such courses.

Additionally, the school is offering courses for the National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET), City and Guilds Certification, driving and customer service.

The minister also commended the staff at the school who assisted with the delivery of courses within a few months.

Similarly, Hylton brought attention to the environment surrounding schools and called for greater attention from the Government.

He said in many cases, sidewalks were non-existent or in disrepair, and many have been overtaken by vending. He said while he understood the need to earn a livelihood, children are being left to walk on the roadways.

He is now calling for the Government to address the issue to reduce the risk to children posed by moving vehicles and reckless drivers.
