‘Improvements in tech infrastructure will bring Jamaica into the future’

Strong infrastructure, legislature, inclusion and better efficiency have all been listed as key areas that Jamaica must continue to develop to properly capitalise on the opportunities made possible through advancements in artificial intelligence (AI).

Speaking at the BizTech 2023 conference, a collaborative event showcasing innovations in the local tech industry hosted in Kingston by the Jamaica Technology & Digital Alliance (JTDA), Senator Dr Dana Morris Dixon, pointed out that Jamaica is more than capable of positioning itself as a tech powerhouse in the region.

She listed critical tasks such as removing pain points in government systems by improving internet access island-wide, cyber security, legislation, and digital identification while preserving and building respect and trust.

Anand Marhurkar, CEO of enterprise AI company Findability Sciences, and one of the panellists at the event alongside Eugene Steinberg, technical fellow, under the topic, AI Empowerment: Revolutionizing Business Dynamics, said that enterprise AI capabilities are a key opportunity for empowering Jamaican business.

Enterprise AI refers to the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies within the context of businesses and organisations to enhance various aspects of their operations. It involves the use of AI tools and techniques to analyse data, automate processes, and reasonably predict outcomes to make intelligent decisions that can contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of an enterprise.

They explained that its key components, data, discriminatory AI, generative AI (GENAI) with the right skills within the right infrastructure supported by policy, when implemented bring a massive productivity boost.
