The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating a violent incident at Dancing Rebel’s birthday celebration on November 30, amid concerns about the involvement of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) personnel.
Two TikTok content creators TJ and Moya were injured during the altercation.
The incident
What began as a verbal exchange between Romeich Major, an artiste manager and entrepreneur, and TJ quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. Major, who had attended dancer Dancing Rebel’s birthday party, became involved in a dispute with TJ, which reportedly led to several men associated with Major allegedly sending officers to attack TJ. Moya, TJ’s girlfriend, intervened in an attempt to protect her partner and was also physically harmed in the incident.
In the aftermath, Major publicly apologised for his role in the altercation. Speaking on TikTok Live on Sunday, December 1, he expressed regret for his actions. Major also apologised to his fiancée and family for the distress the situation caused.
INDECOM’s involvement
INDECOM’s preliminary assessment indicates that several civilians, as well as at least one off-duty police officer, were involved in the alleged assault. While INDECOM does not have the jurisdiction to investigate civilians, it is taking all necessary steps to probe the role of the identified off-duty police officer in the altercation. The commission will oversee the investigation conducted by the JCF into the actions of both civilians and law enforcement personnel.
According to INDECOM, the JCF will conduct a full investigation into the incident with supervision and oversight from the commission. This approach ensures transparency and accountability as the roles of civilians and police officers are thoroughly examined.
As INDECOM continues its investigation, both the victims and the broader public have raised concerns about accountability, particularly regarding the involvement of law enforcement personnel. INDECOM’s efforts to ensure transparency and thorough investigation into the roles all parties played will be crucial in addressing the allegations and restoring public trust.
In the meantime, Romeich Major faces the challenge of repairing his reputation and addressing the emotional and physical harm caused by the incident, while TJ and Moya stand firm in their decision not to forgive.
The INDECOM and the JCF investigators have committed to being steadfast in understanding the police officers’ involvement in the dilemma.
