IT and computer electronics purveyor Intcomex Limited has started the construction of a distribution centre at Ferry Pen in St Andrew.
General manager of Intcomex Jamaica Matthew DeLeon made the disclosure at the AC Hotel Kingston on Thursday, April 3, 2025, where the company held Intcomexpo as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.
“…I’m thrilled to announce that we are in the process of constructing a state-of-the-art distribution centre in the new Ferry Commercial Complex slated for completion early next year. This facility will enhance our capacity to serve our clients and further solidify our position as a leader in technology in Jamaica,” he told participants at the event.
Ferry Commercial Complex is located near the border of St Andrew and St Catherine and is known to have several businesses engaged in special economic zone operations.

According to DeLeon, the new centre will allow the company to have greater ease of reaching clients island-wide considering the property’s proximity to the North-South and East-West legs of Highway 2000. Once completed, the Intcomex distribution centre will require additional human resources to the company’s current 75-member staff complement.
“It’s approximately 45,000 square feet and we have state-of-the-art technology that we’re going to be using to do distribution, kind of comparable to what Amazon has now, and we plan to distribute with ease to the whole island,” he informed Our Today on the sidelines of the event.
“And then we’re going to look to take it a step further by being able to be a logistics centre for the Caribbean and beyond based on a number of different [factors]…and some opportunities we have,” he added.
The general manager said he could not estimate the construction cost for the Intcomex distribution centre in Jamaica.
Founded in 1989 by Thony Shalom, the current chairman, and his son Mike Shalom, presently the CEO, Intcomex is involved in IT distribution in South Florida, USA, exporting technology products from the United States to several Latin American countries and Jamaica. The company has several divisions: security, point of sale, accessories and retail services, servers, computers, networking, software, video games, printers, electronics, mobile, and cloud technology solutions.
Already, Intcomex Jamaica has been exporting its tech products into other Caribbean Community (CARICOM) markets, but whether the company will apply for a special economic zones permit as an operator is still yet to be considered, Deleon divulged. The company also exports to the Dominican Republic.

This export of goods, facilitated through customer partners, will save Intcomex the cost of building out physical footprints in the CARICOM territories. Moreover, the new distributor centre will also allow Intcomex to expand its distribution portfolio to include other products.
When asked what those products would be, DeLeon replied, “Well, it’s kind of different types of products we’re looking at — a little outside the IT realm, but where we see it as an opportunity and where we can take advantage of our distribution situation [we will] at Ferry Pen.”
When pressed about the number of employees Intcomex will need to support the new complex, DeLeon said, “We haven’t given it a lot of thought, but I would figure 400 or 500 employees, maybe.”

Commenting on how he plans to scale employment given the labour shortage challenge in Jamaica, DeLeon told Our Today that importing labour is not “our goal”.
“I think the challenge we’re having is a good challenge. I know a lot of the speakers discussed that today—our employment rate has been where it’s never been before. But I do think that would not be our goal, to find employment resources outside of Jamaica,” he stated.
“I feel that we can do a lot more training…and making our employment resource more effective through proper training like what HEART [Trust/NSTA] does,” he continued.
Supplying and servicing various industries across Jamaica and the Caribbean, Intcomex Jamaica distributes on behalf of several brands such as Lenovo, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, Brother, Canon, Avaya, Logitech, and Epson among others.

Looking ahead, the general manager is optimistic that ICT adoption will serve as a competitive advantage for Jamaica. “I’m excited about the future and I think that technology is what is going to take us to the next level to be able to have Jamaica remain competitive with the rest of the world,” he shared with Our Today.
