American track star Noah Lyles and Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes are set to come to Jamaica and face off against local talent at the sixth staging of the Racers Grand Prix on June 1.
The two-and-a-half-hour spectacle event will be staged at the National Stadium in Kingston on Saturday, June 1.
The men’s 100m is somewhat of a rematch of the World Championship final a year ago as World 100m champion Noah Lyles and Oblique Seville were both on the track where Lyles emerged with the gold and Seville finished just outside the podium in fourth.
“Trust me, I am very excited to run in front of my Jamaican fans, because last year I didn’t get the chance to run. So, this year I have the opportunity to run, so I am going to make my best use of it and perform to the best of my ability,” he said.
I’m looking forward to competing against (Noah Lyles) because my first time competing against him was the finals of the World Championships, so it’s good to run with him before the (Olympics) to get to see what is going to happen.

Meanwhile, Hughes who was third in the men’s 100m final in Budapest, has had previous success at the Racers Grand Prix and is looking to extend his record of winning this year.
“I’m looking forward to competing at the Racers Grand Prix because it’s a very exciting event, it’s always good to have great performances as well and I’ve had a couple of wins there before, so I’m looking forward to having that same trademark going.”
Hughes believes that the 100m race will help him to make a personal early season assessment ahead of the big assignment this summer.

“It’s going to be a great line-up and it’s an Olympic year, (so) it’s a great indicator. So, I’m looking forward to that meet and it helps me to sharpen up for a couple (of other) meets I have in the season.”
World 400m champion Antonio Watson has great memories of the Racers Grand Prix as he clocked his first sub-45 time over the distance last year.
He went on to claim his first world title in Budapest and is looking forward to continuing his preparations for the Olympic Games at the meet.
“I’m very excited about it, it will be my second year competing at the Racers Grand Prix and I enjoyed it last year, so I just want to go out there this year again and put on another great show. Training has been good. I am working on a lot of things over the past few weeks and I’m getting them right, so I am really excited to go out there and perform,” said Watson.

Online tickets for the event go on sale May 1, with physical tickets going on sale from May 24.
Physical tickets can be purchased from the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel while online tickets can be purchased from racersgrandprix.com and mysticonlinetix.com.
Finish line tickets will cost J$5000, grandstand $1000 and bleachers $500. The meet begins at 7:00 pm.
