South Florida Diaspora responds strongly to inaugural conference

A renewed sense of optimism, opportunity, and national pride filled the room as Jamaicans from across South Florida gathered for the inaugural staging of the ‘From Deed to Key Investment and Housing Conference’ at the DoubleTree by Hilton Sunrise Sawgrass Mills.

The event, which brought together industry experts, investors, professionals, and members of the Jamaican diaspora, delivered a powerful message: Jamaica remains a land of opportunity, and now is the time to invest in its future.

Organiser Maxine Miller described the conference as a tremendous success, noting that attendees were highly engaged and eager to learn more about land ownership, housing, investment opportunities, and wealth creation in Jamaica.

“We intentionally brought together the right people to have the right conversations,” said Miller. “The conference featured a diverse panel of experts, including an attorney, land surveyor, engineer, energy consultant, financial professionals, and entrepreneurs who shared their knowledge and experiences. Their presentations reinforced a common theme—that Jamaica offers tremendous opportunities for those willing to invest, build, and create a lasting legacy.”

Miller noted that the timing of the conference was particularly significant as Jamaica continues its recovery and rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Melissa.

“Every challenge presents an opportunity; we just have to doubt the doubt,” she said. “This is a time for Jamaicans everywhere to look at how they can participate in rebuilding communities, strengthening families, and investing in the country’s long-term development.”

The conference opened with remarks from Jamaica’s Consul General to Miami, Oliver Mair, who applauded the initiative and encouraged members of the diaspora to explore the many investment opportunities available in Jamaica. He emphasised the important role overseas Jamaicans play in supporting economic growth and nation-building through investment and entrepreneurship.

Adding his support, Commissioner and Vice Mayor Carson Edwards commended the concept and suggested that the conference could successfully expand into other diaspora hubs such as Atlanta, New York, Canada, and the United Kingdom, where there is growing interest in property ownership and investment opportunities in Jamaica.

Under the theme, “Invest in Yuh Piece of Di Rock,” the conference remained true to its mission of educating and empowering Jamaicans through practical information and expert guidance. Organisers deliberately maintained a non-political focus, ensuring that discussions centred on solutions, opportunities, and actionable steps for participants interested in owning, developing, or securing property in Jamaica.

The conference’s broader message—”Taking Jamaica to Jamaicans, for Jamaicans, by Jamaicans”—resonated strongly with attendees. Many participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity to gain clarity on issues surrounding inherited land, land regularisation, boundary identification, property development, financing options, and sustainable energy solutions.

Throughout the day, audience members remained highly engaged, with presentations on land surveying, legal pathways to ownership, construction, financing, and renewable energy generating significant discussion and interest. The level of participation underscored the growing demand among Jamaicans living overseas for trusted information and resources that can help them confidently navigate the investment and homeownership process.

For many attendees, the conference was more than an educational forum—it was a reminder of the possibilities that exist when Jamaicans abroad remain connected to their roots and actively participate in the country’s development.

With an overwhelmingly positive response from participants, speakers, and stakeholders alike, the inaugural staging of the From Deed to Key Investment and Housing Conference has established itself as a valuable platform for education, engagement, and investment. Organisers are already exploring future editions, with strong interest and requests emerging from diaspora communities in Atlanta and New York as they continue their mission of helping Jamaicans turn dreams of land ownership, homeownership, and investment into reality.

The conference experience extended beyond the main stage through a dynamic marketplace featuring exhibitors who travelled from Jamaica to participate in and support the vision of the initiative. Organisations including Keller Williams Jamaica Realty, Wong’s Realty, Sagicor Property Services, VM Group, VM Property Services, and Cedars Estate were among those showcasing their products and services while engaging directly with attendees. The exhibition area became a hub of activity throughout the day, fostering meaningful conversations, business opportunities, and valuable connections between industry professionals and members of the diaspora. The strong presence and support of the exhibitors further reinforced the conference’s mission of connecting Jamaicans abroad with trusted resources, professional expertise, and tangible pathways to investment and homeownership in Jamaica.

Details regarding the next staging of the conference are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Interested persons are encouraged to follow @FromDeedtoKey across social media platforms for updates, announcements, and information on upcoming events.

As the curtains closed on the first staging, one message remained clear: Jamaica’s future is being shaped not only by those who live on the island, but also by those abroad who continue to believe in, invest in, and build their piece of the Rock. Through vision, collaboration, and strategic investment, the Jamaican diaspora remains a powerful force in driving wealth creation, legacy building, and national development.

The From Deed to Key Investment and Housing Conference is designed to connect Jamaicans at home and abroad with the knowledge, resources, and professional expertise needed to navigate land ownership, housing development, investment opportunities, and wealth creation in Jamaica. Through education, collaboration, and strategic partnerships, the initiative seeks to empower individuals to transform property ownership into generational wealth and lasting legacy.
