Today marks the sixth anniversary of Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Day, celebrated under the theme ‘Brewed Perfection’.
The significance of this year’s events is magnified as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of the first direct shipment of Jamaica’s world-renowned luxury coffee to Japan, initiated by the late Keble Munn, founder of the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory, in March 1953.
Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Day has evolved into a month-long celebration, with special events planned locally and internationally. “Brewed Perfection” reflects the dedication and passion invested in cultivating and producing this globally acclaimed coffee.

Norman Grant, chairman of the Jamaica Coffee Exporters Association (JCEA), as well as CEO and managing director of the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory, expressed enthusiasm for this year’s celebration.
In a message commemorating the occasion, he said, “On behalf of the membership of the Jamaica Coffee Exporters Association (JCEA), and our 5,000 coffee farmers, I wish you a Happy Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Day, as we celebrate the 6th observation in collaboration with the Association of Japanese Importers of Jamaican Coffee (AJIJC), the Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority (JACRA), Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) and our other local and global stakeholders, including our overseas missions.
“This year’s celebration takes on a particular significance considering the number of milestones that will be observed by our trading partners, the JCEA membership, and industry stakeholders. These include the achievement of the 100th anniversary of the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory Limited (MBCF),” he continued.
As part of the celebrations, various activities are planned, including a newspaper supplement, radio interviews by the JCEA chairman, coffee tasting events, the launch of the Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival and Exhibition, discounts, and tastings at coffee houses, and celebrations at diplomatic missions in Miami, Tokyo, and Beijing.
