Jamaican dancehall artistes Jada Kingdom and Alkaline are set to perform at the ‘Baderation’ concert in Guyana on May 27.
The duo will also be joined by St Kitts and Nevis-based singer Byron Messia at the mega-concert that draws several nationals each year.
Last year Jamaican dancehall artiste Skeng performed at the event. However, things took a turn when the deejay was forced to cut his set short due to gun shots being fired.
Skeng is known for releasing songs that often glorify and encourage the use of violence to handle disagreements. Some examples include singles such as London, Protocol and Gvnman Shift.
After the incident, Guyana’s Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn had stated his intentions to ban any dancehall artiste whose lyrics promoted violence from performing in the country.
Alkaline and Jada Kingdom are artiste who have, for the most part, created music about life, relationships or women with a few songs that contain snippets of violent lyrics.
Alkaline is also set to make several other appearances across the Caribbean, including Barbados, for the Reggae on the Hill festival.
Since the beginning of the year, he has released singles such as Motivation, Boss, Mad Luv, and Grip. Jada Kingdom also released a freestyle, WHICH GAL!? and One Life.
