New tech park opens in Portmore

Jamaica has increased its business process outsourcing (BPO) space capacity by 13 per cent with the opening of yet another set of office complexes in Portmore, St Catherine.

The facility, known as Portmore Informatics Park, is a tech campus with 157,000 square feet of office space, which is in addition to the 50,000 square feet that already exist. The tech park also boasts a BPO plug-and-play incubator.

Four companies have leased four three-storey buildings on the campus and there are over 2,000 employees providing BPO services to companies in wide-ranging industries, including banking, travel, electronics and healthcare.

Construction of the tech park began in 2017 and was supposed to have been completed by the end of 2018. The Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ), which built the facility, plans to construct another 147,000 square feet of BPO space over the next few years.

The PAJ plans to increase the total facility at the park to 207,000 square feet with another 147,000 square feet on the horizon for phase two.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness officially opened the tech park earlier this month.
