Jamaica Basketball Showcase highlights Jamaica’s best

Basketball will be back on court in Jamaica, after a two-year absence.

Six teams, comprising the best of the island’s network with invitees from the United States and The Bahamas will battle for the Jamaica Basketball Showcase trophy and cash prizes.

The July 28-30 tournament features six teams.

They are Caribbean Basketball Academy, Phase 1, Chesta Warriors, Hummingbird, Lignum Vitae and Blue Mahoe. 

The Jamaica 60 and Jamaica Basketball Association (JaBA)-endorsed event will run from Thursday to Saturday at the University of Technology (UTech) Auditorium with the final day showcasing the Championship Game and the third-place playoff. 

PRIZES TO BE AWARDED IN DIFFERENT CATEGORIES

The tournament will feature, among others:

  • Anthony Whyte – Pennwood High School stand-out, national representative 
  • Matthew McGowan, MVP from Camperdown 2019, now student of the Caribbean Basketball Academy 
  • DeAndre Forbes, Outstanding Ardenne High School player 

Prizes will be awarded to the most valuable player along with players with the best records in rebounding, steals, assists, free throws and scoring. Fans will also have a chance to win prizes.

The tournament will also present tokens to six outstanding stalwarts of the sport at the weekend event. The six will come from a list of those who have served the game over an extended period in several different aspects of the game.

The tournament tips off on July 28 at 10 am with a brief meet and greet with sponsors and officials. 

The showcase, hosted by the Sports Innovators Group (SIG), is in partnership with Courts Ready Cash, Express Fitness, KFC, Mailpac Group, Grace Kennedy (Western Union) and A. Peart Advisory Services.
