Applications have been opened for conch fishing licences and the allocation of individual catch quotas for Jamaica’s 2023 conch fishing season.

Applications are to be submitted to the National Fisheries Authority (NFA).

The 2023 conch fishing season starts on March 1 and industrial (exporters) fishers have until February 6 to submit applications and February 13 for Artisanal (local trade) fishers.

APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED AFTER DEADLINE WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED

The NFA is encouraging interested parties to submit applications with all supporting documentation before the stated deadlines. Applications must be submitted at the NFA’s head office at 2C Newport East in Kingston.

Applications submitted or received after the deadline will not be considered. Application forms, including an information package, can be collected at the Information Desk in the lobby at the NFA at a cost of $500 per package.

The NFA is a corporate body, established by the Fisheries Act, 2018 with responsibility for the management, development and conservation of the capture and culture fisheries subsectors.

“Jamaica’s aviation traffic is expected to rebound, driven by tourism traffic growth. Hence, a projection of 6.9 million passengers for 2025 is still being held, and we expect that by 2028 we should be at 7.7 million passengers,” Deidrick said.
