Jamaica picked up three more medals on the final day of competition at the World Indoor Championship in Nanjing, China on Sunday (March 23), taking its tally to four.
Team Jamaica ended its campaign 17th in the medals table (on two silver and two bronze apiece) and finished sixth in the placing table with 41 points.
The United States topped the medal table with 16 medals and the placing table with 175 points. Norway finished second with four medals inclusive of three gold, while Australia (with 55 points) trailed behind the US as second in the placing table.
Wayne Pinnock, in the men’s long jump, and the men’s 4×400 relay team minted silver twice for Jamaica, while Ackera Nugent got a remarkable bronze in the women’s 60-metre hurdles after nearly crashing out in the semi-finals.
Raymond Richards had won bronze in the men’s high on Friday as Jamaica improved on the 2024 performance where it finished 25th in the medals table with three bronze and ninth in the placing table with 26 points.
Outside of the medallists, Jordon Scott was fourth in the men’s triple jump; Rohan Watson placed fifth in the men’s 60m; Demario Prince sixth in the men’s 60m hurdles; Jerome Campbell seventh in the men’s 60m hurdles and Amoi Brown eighth in the women’s 60m hurdles.

Sprint hurdler Nugent was the only female medallist and what an emotional one it was as she almost crashed out in the semi-final and somehow managed to finish second to make the final.
Gold went to world record-holder Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas who successfully defended her 60m hurdles title, winning a thrilling race of record depth in 7.72 seconds.
Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland got silver in 7.73s and Nugent copped the bronze in 7.74s as the top six were separated by just 0.04 seconds. It was also the first time that six athletes dipped below 7.80 seconds.
Before this world indoor final, the record number of athletes finishing under 7.80s in a single race was three.
Earlier, Wayne Pinnock picked up yet another global long jump silver medal with a leap of 8.29 metres to finish second to Italy rising star Mattia Furlani landed gold with 8.30m. Australia’s Liam Adcock claimed bronze with 8.28m.

Pinnock’s consistent form continues, having won Olympic and World Championship outdoor silver medals. Last year, Carey McLeod was third 8.21m. Furlani was second in 2024 with 8.22m.
Jamaica’s 2019 World Outdoor Champion Tajay Gayle was tenth with a best of 7.83m. Last year he was sixth.
Jamaica secured another silver medal; winning silver in the men’s 4x400m relay by clocking a sporty 3:05.05. The United States won gold in 3:03.13 with Hungary taking bronze in a national record of 3:06.03.
The Jamaican quartet of Rusheen McDonald, Jasuana Dennis, Kimar Farquharson and Demar Francis ran creditably for silver as they kept the Americans honest throughout.
Veteran Rusheen McDonald picked up another indoor medal having won bronze in the 400m in 2024. He led off with 47.00s and was followed by Dennis with 46.85s.
But Jamaica’s medal was secured following a splendid 45.41s by Farquharson on the third leg as he closed the gap on America’s Jacory Patterson before Francis timed 45.79s secured the silver, Jamaica’s first bronze medal in the event since 2015.
