National Party (PNP) Councillor for Waterford, Fenley Douglas, has dismissed Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) incumbent Robert Miller’s confidence in retaining the South Eastern St Catherine seat, insisting the constituency will return to the PNP after the votes are counted.
Douglas, who has been monitoring the polls throughout the constituency, told reporters that voter turnout has been robust since the morning and that the momentum clearly favours his party.
“It started out slowly this morning, but by midday, it became a bumper crowd at all of our locations throughout the constituency. From my estimation, it is a high voter turnout, and normally when the turnout is high, it is an indication that the people are not voting in a government, but voting out a government,” Douglas said.
He pointed to what he described as the visible presence and energy of PNP outdoor agents compared to the JLP. “I have passed several polling stations within the constituency of South East St Catherine, and I can see that the PNP agents are extremely active, while there is a lull on the side of the Jamaica Labour Party,” he added.

Responding to Miller’s claim earlier in the day that his track record would secure him a second term, Douglas was blunt: “If he’s confident of a win, I would advise somebody to touch him and wake him up, because clearly he’s highly delusional.”
The constituency, a former PNP stronghold, was won by Miller in 2020. However, Douglas maintains that the mood on the ground suggests it will swing back to the opposition.
“I hope he’s still confident at about 5 pm this afternoon,” Douglas said.
