Jamaica’s men’s basketball team lost their second match on the trot, losing 81-97 to Canada in the Group B FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifying match at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Sunday.
It was the second loss in three days after being beaten by the Bahamas on Thursday, 96-99, but they remained second in the group on six points. Canada leads with a perfect eight points, having won all their games.
Puerto Rica defeated The Bahamas 71-66 and moved into third spot on five points, the same as The Bahamas. The top three teams will advance to the second round.
The next set of games will be on July 3 when Jamaica face the Bahamas and Puerto Rico play Canada.
Jamaica, having beaten Puerto Rico twice in Puto Rico returned to Jamaica full of confidence but disappointingly lost both games to The Bahamas and top-ranked Canada.
The Jamrockerz started today’s game looking to rebound but were put under immense early pressure by Canada, which led all the way. 27-19, 49-36, 78-58 and eventually winning 97-81.
Tyran De lattibeaudiere top scored for Jamaica with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Thelwell got 12 points while centre Kofi Cockburn made just seven points but pulled down 10 rebounds. Chase Audige got 11 points.
Marcus Carr led Canada with 17 points, Kyle Witter scored 16 and Kassius Robertson hit 15 points, propelling Canada to their fourth consecutive win.
