The LASCO Chin Foundation (LCF), in association with the Ministry of Education and the Jamaica Teaching Council, is honouring the innovative spirit and resilience of Jamaican educators with Principal and Teacher of the Year Awards which is set to be held on Friday (February 3).

Leading up to the event, Jamaicans have the opportunity to vote for their favourite finalist online, via Instagram.

The People’s Choice competition is hosted on the LASCO Chin Foundation Instagram page @lascochinfoundation. The competition began on Wednesday, (January 25) and will end on Wednesday (February 1).

The competition encourages and gives alumni, friends and supporters the opportunity to elect their favourite teacher or principal by liking their photo on the page, with each like equating to one vote.

At the end of the time period, the principal or teacher with the most likes will win the title of People’s Choice Teacher of the Year along with a gift basket loaded with a wide range of LASCO products.

This prestigious LASCO/MoEY/JTC Principal and Teacher of the Year Award, of which the People’s Choice is a component, is given in recognition of the outstanding performance of educators in all categories of schools.

The Principal of the Year candidates are Dwayne Mulgrave of Discovery Bay High, Cheryl Grant-Mitchell of Anchovy Primary, and George Goode of Old Harbour Primary.

The Teacher of the Year candidates are Jody Brown of Morant Bay High School, Patrice Graham-Kelly of Sydney Pagon STEM Academy and Susan Heart of George Headley Academy.

The TVET Teacher of the Year candidates are: Gina Mullings of St Catherine High School, Nyoka Sewell Powell of Troy High School and Sasha Pennicooke of Horace Clarke High School.

These educators emerged as the top nine candidates following a careful and thorough selection process.

“We are rather excited about this competition.  To see these educators being acknowledged and supported by people who are truly grateful for the role they play in society is amazing.  We urge persons to hop on Instagram and vote,” shared Danielle Cunningham, corporate communication manager at LASCO.

LASCO continues to embrace its role as a nation builder by recognising outstanding educators for their impact on education in Jamaica as well as for making exceptional contributions to the school community.
